This was an ad in the early 90's. I first saw it in a textbook in the late 90's, used as an example of the "slippery slope" fallacy.
Now it's over 20 years later. It's happening.
Been in a funny mood where I really wanna re-read Infinite Jest for some reason… The prospect of carrying a fucking Tome the weight of 5 bricks around doesn’t scare me off anymore
In case you think the writers on strike aren't making good use of their time, think no more!
Only click the read more if you're fully prepared. I'm taking no responsibility past this point.

The entire collection of teaser text and images for Jenny from Thebes, as posted to The Mountain Goats' Instagram
Text reads:
I recall the curb
waiting for the bus
flaky yellow paint
What's become of us?
Searching in the snow
for something in the distance
When the vision comes
I have no resistance
It's one of several iterations
It gets hard to keep track

this is apropos of absolutely nothing but lemony snicket/beatrice baudelaire/bertrand baudelaire is truly a god-tier ship. Like, just for fun its… well its not fun but its as fun as anything in asoue ever is, and its angsty as hell which is definitely some people’s cup of tea. But from a technical/storytelling perspective? I truly think that looking at canon with it in mind adds so much to the meta story, or whatever we’re calling whatever goes on with lemony behind the scenes of the actual events.
The story as is is tragic, Lemony in love with a girl who loved him back, but their lives and their choices were incompatible and she eventually let him fully behind to start a new life, while he is completely cut out from her life and falls deeper into a pit of hiding form enemies and faking his death and secret society bullshit etc etc. Meanwhile Beatrice leaves that all behind, the danger the spying all of it, only for that to be an illusion that both she and Lemony bought into and her family is dragged back into that life and consumed. which is tragic and delicious, and it certainly hurts, but theres an end point to it, when Beatrice marries Bertrand. They have made their choices and there is no going back.
But with Lemony / Beatrice / Bertrand? Much of the story is the same, but the difference is that Lemony is never cut out. The possibility of a life away from VFD is never outside of his reach, and all he has to do is take it…. but at the same time its just as impossible as it ever was because the choices he made and the choices Beatrice and Bertrand made and what he truly wants and the enemies and the lying but most of all himself make it impossible. And it is all the more bittersweet for being so close and yet so far out of his reach, because no matter how far away he goes he could always, always come back, except of course he can’t and never will. And then it all goes up in flames and the beautiful idea of a life away from it all reveals itself to have been outside of his reach all along.
also the ship name is lemonberry ice which is truly incredible
